Posts Tagged ‘FA Cup’

Right, first REAL post of the year…

It was FA Cup weekend, and that means every bloke is glued to the TV – the FA Cup never fails to bring some ‘giant killers’ (lower leagues beating the higher leagues etc.). This weekend was no exception…

Arsenal lucky to win a draw against Leeds (rematch at Elland Road will bring some money to Leeds, and I wouldn’t like to play up there against 38,000 braying Yorskshire men – c’mon Leeds! πŸ™‚ )

Spurs took out Charlton 3-0 to earn a 4th round place away to Fulham – I’m not worried about that though ;), Chelski won 7-0 against Ipswich (my lodger Bri was a bit worried going into the game with Chelski on a bit of a downer…), Man Yoo beat Liverpool 1-0 (dodgy penalty for the home team then Liverpool getting ‘The General’ – Gerrard – sent off really didn’t help Dalgish’s first game back in charge…).

So, the football went well (apart from Leeds not going 2-0 up which would have knocked the wind out of the gooners sails), had a lovely dinner at Von’s (Bri’s missus), with a few others – lovely meal (as ever), some nice wine, and good conversation (we were watching the Man Yoo v Liverpool game with me updating via my phone on the important games πŸ˜‰ ).

So, almost 7pm, I’m home, just cracked open a lovely bottle of Chiraz, and I’m sorted πŸ™‚

Bring on the week I say πŸ™‚

So, the only thing missing from my life right now is a woman…and to be honest – I’ll settle for my left hand right now, can’t say I enjoy being single ALL the time, but I don’t miss the drama.

On a side note, since I bought my new phone (Nokia N900), I’ve been plagued by people who have this masterpiece of computing, but don’t understand the underlying OS (Linux), so can’t ‘fix’ minor niggles they get (makes me look like a Linux god – I’m NOT! – when I can type a few commands and fix their corrupted SMS database etc.)

Oh yeah, I never mentioned I bought a new phone πŸ™‚ this is my baby:

Yes, it’s quite similar in looks to my old Nokia N97, but so, so, so, so much more powerful – a full Linux system on a piece of hardware that fits in my pocket :). No, it REALLY is powerful – since I got hold of it, installed a few apps (the full Linux kernel for a start!), I’ve been totally in love – if this is Moore’s Law, long let it live…

But seriously, this ‘phone’ (it’s actually a small tablet PC with telephone capability) is fucking awesome – add a bluetooth fullsize roll-up keyboard and you have in your pocket a fully functional PC. The OS means I can install MILLIONS of open source applications to do anything I want – I’ve been mostly cracking wireless networks thus far (yeah, yeah, I’m a kid a heart), and informing the owners of their lack in security*

Hmm, other stuff…well, I fell over carrying 3 cases of beer and bruised my coccyx before shitmas – now THAT’S fucking painful, but please note I never dropped the beer, so all is good mostly there πŸ˜‰ still gives me gip though and has stopped my sit-up regime for the time being (and there was me almost with a six pack πŸ˜› ).

Anyway, that was my weekend, looking forward to work next week (no really), and if anyone wants to buy a slightly used Nokia N97 – get in touch πŸ™‚

Ciao πŸ™‚

Oh yeah…COYS!

Yid Army! πŸ˜€

* I’ll get around to telling them at some point…

Yid army!

Woop, woop!

A 3-1 win against Fulham sees us into the semi finals of the FA Cup (it’s not a home tie though – apparently the semis are being played at Wembley…), goals from Bentley (his first touch on as a sub), Pavyluchenko, and Gudjohnsen canceled out the first half goal from Zamora (an ex-Spurs player).

In other results, Villa drew against Sunderland, and Everton beat Man City 0-2 – so all in all a good night for the Yids πŸ™‚

Mid week football

Tonight Spurs host Fulham in the FA Cup quarter final replay…the wineer plays Portsmouth in the semi final (with the added bonus of a home draw) – woop, woop!

Also tonight, Aston Villa play Sunderland and Man City play Everton – to give us a bit of breathing space in 4th place I’d like to see Sunderland and Everton get all the points…

Oh, and at some point yesterday I broke 68000 hits πŸ™‚

Yesterday I got fed up with the ancient mobile I was loaned while my N97 was in for repair so I bought a backup phone – a Nokia (I like Nokia!) 2330 Classic…and it’s very nice πŸ™‚ of course, this led to a phone call from Regenersis at 4.45 yesterday afternoon to let me know my phone was done and ready for pickup – typical huh?

So I’ll shoot over there in a little while and get it πŸ™‚

Yid army!

What a game!

What a result!

It was touch and go for a hat-trick (whether that be an own goal hat-trick, or a Pavlyuchenko hat-trick…)

Great game though – we owned it from the kick off πŸ™‚ totally deserved 4-0 win – fully expected Pav to get the hat-trick with 4 minutes remaining…

And so I give you:

Roman Pavlyuchenko

Did I tell you the joke about the…

Wait, that’s not for a mainstream audience.

Well, Spurs eventually got a draw yesterday, meaning we take Bolton back to the Lane for a reply.

And what a dire game it was – Spurs didn’t seem to have even turned up in the first half – there was 5 minutes (after we’d conceded the goal), that we seemed to start playing…then everyone just went to sleep until the second half. Good ol’ Defoe equalised, then we hit the bar a couple of times before getting a penalty awarded to us.

Now, all Spurs fans will know – since Keane was put out on loan, we’ve not had a penalty kicker – Defoe tried for a bit (and missed at least 3?), it was Huddlestone’s turn yesterday – and every Spurs fan was thinking “It doesn’t matter if the goalkeeper gets behind this – Hudd’s power will take him and the ball through the back of the net…”. Well, we were right up until Hudd sidefooted the tamest ever penalty kick straight at the ‘keeper…

We did bombard their box (ooer) in the dying minutes, but couldn’t get a winner…

So, so busy at work today – been working on the eASE website front page – I’ve made a great image for the header, and hope that’s all I have to do – I’ll need access to the FTP server to incorporate the rest of the content (and lose the damned annoying video – or at least stop it autoplaying), guess I’ll find out tomorrow what else I’ve to do…

What else? oh yes, I’ve got to ‘farm’ some data from another website, so I’ve managed to get all the info I need to do this, just gotta write a small program tonight to grab and format the data, then email it all off in a readable format (it’s a database, so .csv will do)

So, football and geekiness – I’m back on song πŸ˜‰

Just a quickie (oo-er)

So, met up with my mate Gooner earlier for some snooker. Now, we used to play quite regularly, but the last couple of years it’s been sporadic – today was the first time I’ve played in about 9 months, so I was expecting to get my arse kicked…

But wait…4-0 up and looking good – finally won 7-2 πŸ™‚ oh yes, a 3 hour snooker marathon…only thing is though, both of us got parking tickets ‘cos our tickets expired 😐

Spurs ended up drawing to Leeds in the FA Cup – return trip to Elland Road for us then…that last minute penalty given to Leeds should never have been given though – Dawson clearly got the ball cleanly. Still, s’only a game πŸ™‚

Fourth round…

Spurs play Leeds tomorrow at 5.15 in the FA Cup 4th round – this is the Leeds that knocked Man Utd out last round, and the Spurs that are playing random football – great win one week, dropping points where we should be getting all 3 the next…

Hopefully Lennon will be back pretty soon – his speed is dangerous to defences.

After a terrible result at Anfield mid week, Spurs need a convincing win to get the spirits back up so we can carry on going for that champions League spot…

Now I’ve bored you all with the football πŸ™‚ looks like a sort of long weekend for me – Monday I’m working from home on the company website, so what I’ll probably do is a few hours here and there over the weekend, re-aquaint myself with HTML and CSS a little (I’ve let some work go because I couldn’t be bothered with web design – and I could really do with the money right now), if I can get motivation I’ve a lot I could get done right now…meh.

Been a strange week – I’m in one of those “don’t really like people in general” moods, and every day I just couldn’t wait to get back home – I’m definitely turning into a grumpy old man πŸ˜€ I did get round to my mum’s today though – my cousin was over from Australia so had to see her before she goes back and I was there early so got to chat with mum too – bonus! (plus, being there first, I got the big cow mug so l’il sis couldn’t have it πŸ™‚ double bonus!). Childish huh? but this from 2 (alleged) adults who still do the “I can see the monument!” thing when driving to Yarmouth – the monument being roughly the halfway point, it was, as kids, we always used to stop for a break – of course, we always hated it on the way to our holiday, and wanted to keep going, while on the way back, we wanted to stay there maybe another night? πŸ™‚ ah, childhood…apparently one day I’ll grow out of it?

Reminds me of the joke:

My girlfriend says I’m easily distracted,Β  bu… oooooh a light!

And that is exactly me if you change ‘easily distracted’ for ‘shit scared of just about any form of commitment’…once again, meh.

And now I’m off for a bath, then maybe out for a couple of beers – playing snooker in the morning so gotta be sharp…

Ciao

Happy Monday everyone!

There, thought I’d brighten up everyone’s week with a happy greeting…

Now, down to the real stuff – I HATE MONDAYS!

I’m not so bad as I once was, but I hate the feeling when the weekend is finished and a whole week looms ahead – bleah.

Had a very quiet weekend myself, ended up knocking myself out on Friday…what happened was I finished work, did a load of running around, then collapsed on my couch. It was when I decided to get a move on and do something that I jumped up, ran into the kitchen, and the next thing I know I was twitching on the floor, burbling away to myself in some strange tongue, lying in a pool of blood – I went over HARD and was out for at least 5 minutes, so now I have a lovely black eye and cut above the eye.

Spurs went out of the FA Cup to Man Utd. on Saturday – I didn’t really care, personally I think I was still concussed from Friday.

And I made it into work too – had a blazing headache since Friday (should probably go see a doctor), my eye is rapidly closing, but I made it in on a Monday.
