I think Ryanair rocks…

And not just ‘cos I’m contracted to work for them either…

I mean – that part is shit…I’m a duty passenger so I have to wait for everyone to check in before I know for certain I have a seat…

The staff are awesome (although I’ve never met one of the Ryanair Calendar girls…) – for short haul flights, they do their job very well…

So why does everyone diss Ryanair?

I give you this.

I’m sorry, but to me the key words in this article are “Ryanair apologised for the disruption. It arranged free ferry transfers to Lanzarote and said hotel refunds apply” fair enough eh? especially after:

A family has complained that budget airline Ryanair left them stranded on the “wrong” Canary Island after their flight to Lanzarote hit thunderstorms.

WTF? are airlines now responsible for the weather?

Kay Wright, 40, of Poole, Dorset, said staff did not help them to find a hotel after their diversion to Fuerteventura.

Aw bless…then fuck off back home you cunt.

Miss Wright had set off from Bournemouth Airport with children Jack, six, and George, five; stepdaughter Tabatha, 23; and her three-year-old daughter Kacey on Wednesday.

They finally arrived at Playa Blanca, Lanzarote, on Thursday.

Miss Wright’s boyfriend, Tony Wainwright, 48, told Bournemouth’s Daily Echo newspaper: “I don’t blame Ryanair for the bad weather but to abandon a family, on the wrong island, is unforgivable.

That’s big of him huh? he doesn’t blame Ryanair for the weather, but hey – BECAUSE of the weather, they had to land on another island…and (OMFG) the airline didn’t pay for a room?* (rewind to the bit where he says “I don’t blame Ryanair for the bad weather”)

Complete pair of cunts – I’ve personally met O’Leary, and he’s a fucking nice guy (free tickets to please), the whole Ryanair people are great – a shoestring outfit, but everyone of them is awesome…(was gonna list some names here, but thought I’d better not – Data Protection Act and stuff…)

I love Ryanair πŸ™‚

But hey, Brian, Ana, Maria, Agnieszka (sp?), Nico, and all the guys/girls I’ve met in various places around Europe – you’ve all made me feel at home with you, and I love you for it πŸ™‚

Get off Ryanair’s back – they do a great job!

*Ryanair apologised for the disruption. It arranged free ferry transfers to Lanzarote and said hotel refunds apply.

EDIT: Why don’t I get a free calendar? have you seen these women?

I give you September 2009 (my birthday month):

You know you would...

I'm back! (again…)

Well, Spain was fun, as ever πŸ™‚

Wasn’t as warm as I would have liked, but 20 degrees is still better than it was here…

Nice hotel – even had a balcony – so I stood out on that and watched the traffic going by for a bit while waiting for the restaurant to open for dinner πŸ˜‰

Hotel view

This trip was a bit strange really – I was out in Girona only a couple of weeks back to test/inspect the de-icer there, and then out to Reus (200km south) this week. I flew into Reus for this one, but flew out from Girona. It would have made more sense for Ryanair to fly me to Reus, carry out the test there, then drive to Girona, carry out the test there, then jump on the late flight back to Stansted. Instead, I got a night in the hotel, and a hire car to get to Girona πŸ™‚ ugly looking thing though:

Skodia Fabia

Still, was nice to drive, and the roads in Spain are well maintained and sign posted, so I didn’t get lost!

It didn’t bother me at all driving on the other side of the road (although changing gear with my right hand instead of the left was initially odd), but it felt weird when I was driving home from Stansted last night being on the left again – maybe I’m destined to live in mainland Europe?

I must sing the praises of the pilot from yesterday though – I’ve never experienced such a smooth landing EVER – you just didn’t even feel the wheels touch down, I only realised we were down when the brakes came on…

For once, Stansted border control was empty – another flight got there at the same time as the first ones off (that’ll be me then) from our flight so I was 8th in line and got through in super fast time. Seems they’ve given up looking for similarities between my passport photo and me – I mean, look:

Me in 2004, and now

Oh well, another trip completed – think that brings my flying this year up to about 13000 miles – testing is due in Dublin early next month, so that’ll add another 750 miles if I go, and still not heard about the line station testing due in Jamaica & Mexico…

Happy days πŸ™‚

Ciampino Airport, Rome

Well, it was a LONG day…but I finally got home.

Wasn’t the easy ride I thought it would be either – I’d planned on getting started about 10am, being done by 2pm, then heading off into Rome for some sight seeing until my flight back at 10pm.

For starters, Ryanair (airline I was working for) don’t actually have a hangar at Ciampino – they’re breaking a B737 so have rented a stand which has been cordoned off at the end of the runway:

I was working in a corner of this compound:

The ‘yellow things’ centre left are the set of jacks I was there to reseal/test – as you can see, the weather was just a bit stormy…and very wet:

And so I took that pic while huddling under the aircraft where the undercarriage once was…

And so it was a wet, miserable snee for a while…

I didn’t get finished until about 5.30pm, and by the time I’d got my jobsheets filled in and signed it was getting on for 7pm, and as it was still raining (storm front in from Russia apparently – bloody commies πŸ˜‰ ), I decided not to go into Rome – I mean, who wants to see the sights in pouring rain? anyway, I DID get to see the Colosseum as we flew in – and let me tell you – it looks fucking impressive!

So, my plan is to go back out to Rome at some point and be a tourist πŸ™‚ …just have to find someone to go out there with πŸ™‚

Happy days

Well, I’m happy πŸ™‚

No, I’m VERY happy πŸ™‚

Got a new woman in my life and it’s going very well…very well indeed.

I was supposed to be going onto a 3 day week at work, but it seems that’s just a smokescreen of some kind – we need to downsize in our workshop and having the guys all thinking my hours have been reduced has them all wondering if their jobs are safe. On the plus side, this should mean productivity is up – time will tell.

Anyway, Kathy’s away for the week down in Cornwall (now THAT’D be a long drive if I were to go see her…) – our second week apart after my week in Morocco (did I mention I’d been to Morocco?). I’m off to Spain a week on Thursday for the day – testing at Ryanair in Girona, then bringing back as much tobacco as I can carry ‘cos it seems no-one is selling any in town nowadays so I’m gonna jump into the market and make a few quid πŸ™‚

Weather’s slowly turning nice – and I’ve got bloody hayfever πŸ™ looking at a pollen calendar, it seems I’m allergic to Ash and Birch tree pollen – should die out in a week or so though πŸ™‚ just in time for a trip to Spain, and then see Kathy (must book a couple of days off…)

And that’s about it…
