Woohoo! off on holiday next week…

Sunny Spain πŸ™‚ this is the hotel:

So, until I get back, have something to ponder:

Mmm indeed!

Just back from 2 days in Spain load testing the deicing rigs in Girona and Reus, weather was beautiful and the beer was cold! πŸ™‚

I feel old…

*Sigh* my back is hurting and I don’t have any pills at work, looks like I’ll be onsite in 2 different locations later this week, so I’ve gotta get it back to normal before then.

On a brighter note: I watched ‘London Boulevard‘ last night – what an awesome film! great casting (Anna Friel FTW) , superb soundtrack, and once again proof that British film-makers make the best gangster movies πŸ™‚

Saturday is Wales vs England in the Euro 2012 qualifiers…it will be interesting to see how Speed plays Bale for Wales – and how England cope with him.

EDIT: And now off to Spain April 6th πŸ™‚

Ok, I’m just about happy with the look now

So now all I have to do is write something… 😐

Well, seeing as we got a drubbing last night, I’ll not mention the football…

Work is good – looks like I’m off to Spain for the 6 monthly de-icer load testing (fly into Girona, perform test, drive to Reus, perform test, fly home). I’m still considering delaying the return flight for a week so I can have a (relatively) cheap holiday – I’d just have to pay for off-peak accommodation/food/beer πŸ™‚ I’ll have to check the money situation before I broach the subject with Ryanair.

Now, off to look at different plugins/widgets I can add here – the Flikr one is a must…

I'm back! (again…)

Well, Spain was fun, as ever πŸ™‚

Wasn’t as warm as I would have liked, but 20 degrees is still better than it was here…

Nice hotel – even had a balcony – so I stood out on that and watched the traffic going by for a bit while waiting for the restaurant to open for dinner πŸ˜‰

Hotel view

This trip was a bit strange really – I was out in Girona only a couple of weeks back to test/inspect the de-icer there, and then out to Reus (200km south) this week. I flew into Reus for this one, but flew out from Girona. It would have made more sense for Ryanair to fly me to Reus, carry out the test there, then drive to Girona, carry out the test there, then jump on the late flight back to Stansted. Instead, I got a night in the hotel, and a hire car to get to Girona πŸ™‚ ugly looking thing though:

Skodia Fabia

Still, was nice to drive, and the roads in Spain are well maintained and sign posted, so I didn’t get lost!

It didn’t bother me at all driving on the other side of the road (although changing gear with my right hand instead of the left was initially odd), but it felt weird when I was driving home from Stansted last night being on the left again – maybe I’m destined to live in mainland Europe?

I must sing the praises of the pilot from yesterday though – I’ve never experienced such a smooth landing EVER – you just didn’t even feel the wheels touch down, I only realised we were down when the brakes came on…

For once, Stansted border control was empty – another flight got there at the same time as the first ones off (that’ll be me then) from our flight so I was 8th in line and got through in super fast time. Seems they’ve given up looking for similarities between my passport photo and me – I mean, look:

Me in 2004, and now

Oh well, another trip completed – think that brings my flying this year up to about 13000 miles – testing is due in Dublin early next month, so that’ll add another 750 miles if I go, and still not heard about the line station testing due in Jamaica & Mexico…

Happy days πŸ™‚

A hectic week

So, Monday I was up in East Midlands Airport, back to the office about 3.30 – relatively easy day (if you disregard lugging the test rig on and off jacks).

Yesterday, or yes…up at 5 to get to Stansted for my flight to Spain (Girona). Was about 11 local time when I FINALLY got my security pass and could go do the work. I must admit though, it was lovely being on the apron in glorious sunshine, so I took my time and had a good play was very thorough in testing and inspecting the rig – similar to this one (but a lot bigger):

I had 8 hours to kill before my flight home, so I took a bus into Girona. The amusing thing is – yesterday I didn’t bother changing money here for Euros as I figured I could do that over in Spain. How wrong was I? no money change facilities at Girona airport. “No problem…” thought I, “I’ll go into a bank in Girona.”

Bloody banks (and seemingly everything else) closes at 2.30…FOR THE AFTERNOON!

So I found a bar, got myself a beer and worked out a budget/plan for the 28 Euros I had. Basically the plan consisted of buying beer from Lidls, wander to a nice sunny park, strip off (not totally – behave), and soak up some sun while getting a very pleasant buzz and people watching – worked out fine, I had enough cash left for a beer back at the airport, and STILL had 2 Euros left πŸ™‚

Oh, please note: Girona airport is a gateway to the Costa Brava, and as such, gets full of the type of Brits I tend to avoid (can you say ‘chavs’?). All of them with overly loud voices, crap kids names (I’m sure I heard one snotty nosed, earring wearing brat called ‘Chlamydia’, but I may have misheard his name…), sprawling all over the seating area thus ensuring nobody else could get near the seats (I just shoved bags onto the floor and sat in comfort amid glares from mama and papa chav et chavettes).

Honestly, I felt ashamed to be British and was actually planning on answering in French if anyone asked me anything (no-one did – must have had my ‘fuck off’ face on I guess). Playing ‘spot the Brit’ was easy though – they were all lobster red, and had shiny white trainers on.

Today I’m in the office all day – lots to do so it’ll seem a short day (although for some reason I keep thinking it’s Thursday…).

And then tomorrow…

Got to be up about 3 to get to Stansted (again) for an early flight to Reus (Spain – again) to test/inspect another rig. I’ll arrive about 9.30 and hopefully be all done by lunchtime (takes forever to get through security). Thing is though, there’s only a flight from Reus to Stansted in the morning, so I’ve got an overnight stay here.

Now, Reus is the airport I flew into on my holiday last year, so I know it’s only 10 minutes away from Salou, so I plan to get to my hotel, shower, get changed and head there for several (gallons) of beer and soak up some sun πŸ™‚

Then Friday, it’ll be back to the airport for my flight at 10, getting back to Stansted about 12, home about 1. Then spend a couple of hours sorting bills etc., have a chat with Dennis who’ll be down, then off down to Kathy’s for the weekend πŸ™‚

It’s a hard life…

Happy days

Well, I’m happy πŸ™‚

No, I’m VERY happy πŸ™‚

Got a new woman in my life and it’s going very well…very well indeed.

I was supposed to be going onto a 3 day week at work, but it seems that’s just a smokescreen of some kind – we need to downsize in our workshop and having the guys all thinking my hours have been reduced has them all wondering if their jobs are safe. On the plus side, this should mean productivity is up – time will tell.

Anyway, Kathy’s away for the week down in Cornwall (now THAT’D be a long drive if I were to go see her…) – our second week apart after my week in Morocco (did I mention I’d been to Morocco?). I’m off to Spain a week on Thursday for the day – testing at Ryanair in Girona, then bringing back as much tobacco as I can carry ‘cos it seems no-one is selling any in town nowadays so I’m gonna jump into the market and make a few quid πŸ™‚

Weather’s slowly turning nice – and I’ve got bloody hayfever πŸ™ looking at a pollen calendar, it seems I’m allergic to Ash and Birch tree pollen – should die out in a week or so though πŸ™‚ just in time for a trip to Spain, and then see Kathy (must book a couple of days off…)

And that’s about it…
