So, having spent 20 odd years in the aerospace industry before finding the people I worked for were a bunch of crooks necessitating a change in direction for me – moving onto the last 5 years with ABB.
I’ve enjoyed my time with ABB, and have had some great support from my line manager as I manage my own team as part of the larger UK/IE sales team. The integrity and compliance that ABB insists on from day one certainly is a refreshing change from RHE!
But now, as we start to see the oil and gas industry changing, and even ABB as a company undergoing changes post-COVID, I’ve decided once again to move on, and this time follow my long-term hobby and go for a career in IT. Woo!
Having 40+ years experience in computer systems, operating systems, programming, networking, and security is certainly going to be useful to me and my prospective employers, but first I need to get some official certification behind me so have signed up to the CompTIA A+, Network+, and Security+ exams with the option then to move into cyber-security or ethical hacking.
So my personal challenge is to get core 1 and core 2 of the A+ behind me by the end of November and start looking for the new role with the plan to start end of January while completing the Network+ and Security+.
Of course, I don’t know everything, and even if I do run virtual machines, the concepts and theory behind these are things I’ve merely accepted but now need to learn…I’m loving every minute of it 🙂
So here I am on a wet Saturday afternoon, having completed the modules for core 1, busy revising before booking the exam.
