Well, England qualified top of their group in the World Cup Finals without really looking very good. Last night’s game was a mixture – a sublime first half topped off by the goal of the tournament by Joe Cole (I thought that was going into the top of the stand), then a useless second half. Still, a draw was all we needed to finish top and avoid a second round match against hosts Germany – IF we go all the way, we could meet up with them in the final.<\/p>\n

Holland and Argentina play today – now THAT is gonna be a good game…Argentina are looking the best so far (let’s hope they’ve peaked too early) and should top their group – they need only to draw against Holland to achieve this.<\/p>\n

Got into work this morning to find the big shutter doors to the workshop locked up with a new padlock. Nobody seemed to know where the key to it was, so I looked about everywhere, then had a brainwave – maybe whoever fitted it remembered just as they were about to leave, and posted it through the letterbox. So I had a look adn found a card from the fire department – apparently, the paint shop had a fire last night, the firemen had to force an entry and had put the padlock on to secure the place (key was at the police station), so a bit of drama to start the day. Next up was the news that one of the workers had been stirring up trouble by telling the boss’s wife that everyone had left early on the 15th to watch the England v Trinidad & Tobago match and left him alone in the workshop. This was a blatant lie, the only person to leave early was me, and I’d arranged that when the draw was first anounced. I don’t know why he said it, it’s so easy to disprove – an email was sent from the office at 17.05 so obviously Tim and Corina were still here then, and there was a temporary worker in the workshop at the time anyway…some people.<\/p>\n

I’m still looking at a way to have a proper blog script as this page – at the moment, I’m just modifying the HTML and uploading the file again – something else that’s bugigng me is that my FTP program won’t just overwrite the file, I have to login my ISP control panel, delete the file there, then upload it via FTP…anyone with knowledge of IIS servers and knows why it gives a 550 (permission denied) error when I try to overwrite it, drop me an email…<\/p>\n

Ok, update: I got my FTP permissions sorted out (woohoo).<\/p>\n

Back to football related stuff: there’s been reports of Scottish thugs assaulting people in Scotland who wear England football shirts – a teenage boy and a disabled driver were beaten up. This is the mentality of a country who holds this incredible grudge against England – just because they failed to qualify for the World Cup Finals, they are supporting the teams England come up against. In the 70’s and 80’s, English fans got a bad name from the actions of the few thugs who called themselves football fans but were only looking to start fights – this ended with English teams being banned from European football for five years – Scottish teams should have the same punishment put onto them. If England fail to qualify for a tournament, but Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland do (even the Republic of Ireland), then English fans get behind those teams – we don’t support the opposition just to see them put out early – that’s childish.
