Been a lonnnnnnnnnng week for me
Monday I was up VERY early to get to Stansted and fly out to Spain. This ended up being a 25+ hour day, so Tuesday when I went into the office, I was a little bit tired…still, got through the day. Wednesday meant a trip to Birmingham to load test a couple of wheel change jacks – again, nice weather and a pleasant drive up. Didn’t take too long to get my security pass and get airside to carry out the testing and I was soon on my way back. Then I hit traffic on the M6 – turns out […]

So, yesterday morning, I checked my boarding pass for the flight times prior to leaving the hotel, and was somewhat amused by the flight number: Heh – FR404 – ‘flight not found’ I had visions of ‘Lost’ happening – then realised there are no beautiful desert islands travelling from Prestwick to Stansted. Meh. One other thing: it annoys me when I check-in online and have to put my nationality as ‘United Kingdom’ – I’m BRITISH FFS…

Got to Stansted fine. As usual, about 6000000 people going through security. And so the first problem: I’ve been using the same bag for toiletries for about 2 years now and it has a split in it, so I had to put the rest of my stuff through, pay a pound to get another bag, and have them scan my deodorant and toothpaste again. Got ‘bleeped’ as a random so had the pat down search (“Anything sharp on you sir?” said pat down guy “Only my wit” came the reply). Having only notes on me I went to the info […]

The man who dreamt up the idea of ‘packet’ data (that’s the idea that will keep the internet running even after large parts are knocked out following a nuclear strike) died last night. “He was a man of infinite patience,” said his son David Baran. He added that his father had recently shown him a paper written in 1966 which speculated about what people would do with the telecommunication networks in the future. “It spelled out this idea that by the year 2000 that people would be using online networks for shopping and news,” he said. “It was an absolute […]

So, it was Wales vs England so my wingman (Bob) and me went into town to watch the game…and that’s where it started to go wrong… Started in the King’s Head (Hi Cilla!) – no problem there…went to the New Inn – no problem there. Second half – Cornerhouse. Oh dear…when OMAR (aka twat) told us to sit down when the anthem was being sung it started going tits up…Bob had to hustle me out of the door before I kicked off. So we went back to the King’s head, he got very, very drunk, so I took him home…and […]

So, everyone’s seen those rubber/plastic bracelets to show concern for whatever is currently ‘cool’*. Based on this: Plus the fact I’m in between doing work-related stuff (honestly!), I looked into it here. Hmm…82p ($1.33) each??? and minimum order 100??? Having said that, there’s a colour chart here – personally, I think PMS1405 is closest to my original ‘monkey-shit brownβ’’ π *This doesn’t mean I consider myself ‘cool’, or ‘down with the kids’ Ok, while I’ve got your attention – if you’ve got a wireless network, does it still have it’s default name (not a good idea – makes it easier […]

*Sigh* my back is hurting and I don’t have any pills at work, looks like I’ll be onsite in 2 different locations later this week, so I’ve gotta get it back to normal before then. On a brighter note: I watched ‘London Boulevard‘ last night – what an awesome film! great casting (Anna Friel FTW) , superb soundtrack, and once again proof that British film-makers make the best gangster movies π Saturday is Wales vs England in the Euro 2012 qualifiers…it will be interesting to see how Speed plays Bale for Wales – and how England cope with him. EDIT: […]

Wandered into the King’s Head Saturday morning to be greeted by “We’re not open until 12!” from Cilla. “No problem.” I replied, “but are you showing the Spurs game?” “Well,” came the reply “I need a techy guy to sort out the big screen…” And so it was that I didn’t pay for a beer until I met up with Bob et al in the Gash about 3 π Lovely roast lamb dinner at Bri and Von’s yesterday, followed by Rangers* winning the CIS cup π *Yes, I support Spurs, but Rangers are my Scottish team – I even have […]
