a typical friday…

It started badly – one of the computers (the one used to connect to the bank to pay the wages) went into a spontaneous reboot everytime the desktop appeared. I finally managed to coax it back to life – good job we got a new tower this week with the intention of replacing that particular bit of kit (it’s gonna end up at my house when I’ve finished swapping machines around).

Next thing that happened – Corina gets in, and seeing as she’s now got a new LCD screen, she decided to move everything around (cue me hanging about with an anxious look, waiting for something to fell off the desk and break). Granted, she did the moving without damaging anything, turned on the computer, it booted up fine – then came the cry “My mouse isn’t working”. Well, she has a wireless keyboard and mouse, so the first thing I asked was “Is it plugged in fully?”. “Yes,” she replied. So I go about checking batteries etc. – all good. Tried rebooting – still no mouse. So I said “Are both the plugs in the PS/2 slot or USB?” to which came the reply “Both? there’s only one…”

At this point I think I had an aneurism…in her wisdom, Corina assumed that seeing as the mouse was a wireless one, it didn’t need to be plugged in (it’s painful isn’t it?) – when I pointed out that the keyboard was wireless too and THAT was plugged in, she just grinned…anyway, mouse was plugged in and she remarked “It’s STILL not working…” I had to point out that PS/2 isn’t hot pluggable (like USB), and she’d need to reboot to get it working.

It’s all good now though…2.5 hours until the weekend – woohoo 😀

Well, it must be one of those days…TGND came in this morning, gave me his website on a flashdrive and pleaded with me to fix his HTML – he explained how he was using frames and wanted a link to load in a specific frame. Simple stuff, you just use code like this:

    <a href="bleah.htm" target="thisframe">bleah</a>

Exactly the way he was doing, it just wasn’t working for him.

I had a look at the source and what it all came down to (and he was mortified by the simplicity) was he was targeting ‘mainframe’ but had given it the name ‘mainFrame’ – one uppercase F had messed him up for days…I must admit to chuckling just a little.
