Bloody computers
Well, what a day it’s been so far.
It started out with one of the computers at work (the one the boss uses) refusing to boot up – it kept blue screening with a ‘PFN_LIST_CORRUPT’ error. Turns out that it’s related to bad memory though, so I pulled the memory out and borrowed one from the techy guy next door and voila! computer up and running again. The computer shops in town don’t stock SDRAM anymore, so I had to order some online – that should be here tomorrow (assuming the Post Office do their job…).
Then, just before lunch, Jenny remarked that her computer had frozen – this was critical, as hers is the computer used to access bankline where all the wage transfers are made. Hitting the reset switch would normally do the trick, then running chkdsk to make sure the hard drive was ok. This time though, the computer sat there with both power and hard drive lights lit up, but nothing going on (lights on, nobody home scenario). So there I was, wanting my lunch, sitting under a desk sorting out the tangle of cables so I could get the computer onto the desk to work on it – how DO cables tie themselves up like they do? anyway, got that one up and running again…
On a non-geeky note: Spurs have started the season poorly – 4 points from 5 games. A win in the UEFA Cup was nice to see though, I’m sure I’m not alone in wanting to see more goals in the premiership…
